Head of Production Engineering
Location: Plymouth
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 + 10% bonus
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Butler Rose are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a respected manufacturer in the Plymouth area, who due to expansion are looking for a Head of Production Engineering with strong hands on experience to lead their production engineering function.

This role will suit someone who thrives on getting close to the detail of processes, solving problems on the shop floor, and driving practical improvements that make a measurable difference to efficiency, quality, and cost.

The Role

As Head of Production Engineering, you'll be at the forefront of:

  • Overseeing day-to-day production engineering activities, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Taking a hands on approach to problem solving, troubleshooting processes, and applying robust technical solutions.
  • Using your expertise in assembly processes and welding techniques (spot, projection, MIG, TIG, robotic) to improve workflows and resolve challenges.
  • Producing accurate manufacturing costings, ROI calculations, and process justifications.
  • Working closely with production teams to identify opportunities for material savings, tooling improvements, and lean practices.
  • Leading and mentoring a skilled team of engineers, sharing knowledge and developing capability across the department.
About You

We're looking for someone with:

  • A degree in Engineering or equivalent hands on professional experience.
  • Proven knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes (highly desirable).
  • Strong understanding of assembly operations and the ability to accurately assess time, cost, and resources.
  • Confidence in applying welding expertise to practical problem solving.
  • The ability to work closely with production teams, taking a proactive, shop floor presence to support daily operations.
