A quick look at the role

We're seeking an experienced and driven Head of Operational Excellence - Transfer Stations to lead process and performance improvement across Biffa's I&C Transfer Station network.
You'll enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability, driving best practice and continuous improvement across all operations while collaborating with senior leaders to deliver strategic and commercial outcomes.

Your core responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Operational Excellence Transfer Stations team to deliver measurable improvements in safety, efficiency, and performance.
• Align all Operational Excellence initiatives with I&C and wider Biffa group strategies.
• Chair the Best Practice Group, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing across divisions.
• Partner with key stakeholders (H&S, Environmental, HR, Procurement, Finance, and Engineering) to deliver cross-functional initiatives.
• Identify and implement cost and performance improvements through audits, analysis, and supplier engagement.
• Support major operational projects including MRF developments, new builds, and M&A activity.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, and company standards across all sites.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement and effective change management.

Our essential requirements

• Proven leadership and people management experience within waste management or a related operational field.
• Strong track record of driving continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
• COTC Level 4, IOSH, and Lean Six Sigma (or equivalent) qualifications.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
• Analytical, data-driven, and commercially focused approach.
• Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel nationally.
