Our Maternity Service at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) is on a journey of improvement. As a service we strive to improve the experience for our expectant mothers and their families through listening to our service users with our Trust board who have made significant investment in the maternity services financially and support of staff and service development.

The Maternity Services works in partnership with the Local Maternity and Neonatal Systems (LMNS) to drive the national maternity agenda forward to improve the safety and quality of our services.

We are excited to offer the role of Head of Midwifery working cross site. We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate senior leader who wants to make a difference, by leading with compassion and a commitment to deliver on the key performance indicators and quality improvement initiatives to ensure a safe and responsive maternity service.

As a visible and compassionate leader, you will work in close collaboration with your colleagues, providing senior management cover, and professional oversight, working together to lead on delivery of the maternity and wider Trust agenda.

The post holder has a specific responsibility to support the promotion of high standards of care and embed patient safety. This will be through effective translation of learning from incidents and embedding this at a service level.

The post holder will participate in the senior manager on call rota.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will work with the Midwifery and wider Divisional Management Team to provide professional and clinical leadership support to the division and service and provide oversight and assurance on the day-to-day delivery of high-quality standards of patient care across the hospital and community midwifery services.

Working as part of the Senior Maternity Leadership the post holder will play a significant role in leading the maternity transformational agenda, corporate agenda and providing leadership for professional, clinical, strategic and business direction in particular for Divisional transformation Patient Safety, Quality and Experience.

Providing visible and supportive leadership and acting as a role model for staff at all times, the post holder will be a key member of the Director of Midwifery's senior management team.

Person Specification Registration and qualifications

• NMC registered
• First level degree of equivalent
• Working towards Masters qualification

Education

• CNO Fellowship in safer staffing

Experience

• Significant experience at senior level with demonstrable management and leadership experience
• Experience of leading team and delivering projects on time and within budget
• Experience of working with a range of external stakeholders at a senior level
• Significant senior operational management experience in an acute setting
• Experience of detailed report writing for Trust board and/or sub board committees
• Senior experience and in depth knowledge of the maternity and corporate governance framework
• Experience of using quality improvement methodology to implement service change
• Experience of leading research projects
• Evidence of speaking on regional, national forums and at conferences.
