Head of Medical Sciences and Evaluation

Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria have entered into a partnership to form the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM) , based at the University of Cumbria at the Carlisle Fusehill Street campus. PCSM's vision is to improve health outcomes for the people of Cumbria.
The School is now seeking to appoint an outstanding individual as Head of Medical Sciences and Evaluation
In this role, you will lead the Medical Sciences on-campus delivery to ensure an outstanding student experience. This includes curriculum planning and timetabling, optimising the use of teaching spaces and resources across the module. Working closely with the Head of Assessments, you will play a key role developing the assessments ensuring the reliability and validity of questions across the Medical Sciences 1 and Medical Sciences 2 modules. You will have an understanding the standard approaches to medical assessment, question writing and review, standard setting, and post-hoc item analysis. You will also manage the Medical Sciences Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) working closely with the Head of Curriculum Management and Assessments
You will lead the implementation of the PCSM Evaluation Strategy, which will determine whether the school is achieving its stated goals and objectives, particularly in relation to the Mission to recruit, educate, and retain doctors for the healthcare needs of Cumbria. You will be responsible for ensuring qualitative and quantitative data is collected (including surveys, focus groups, and secondary data analysis of other data sources) tracking outcomes across all categories listed in the PCSM Evaluation Strategy.
What you would be doing- Work independently and collaboratively with the Head of Curriculum Management and Assessment to provide leadership in the delivery of the Medical Sciences modules,
- Apply subject matter and pedagogic expertise to own teaching practice and to support the teaching teams within the Medical Sciences; ensuring an excellent student experience.
- Ensure Medical Sciences learning materials, revision resources, and assessment items meet agreed quality standards and timelines.
- Ensure alignment of the curriculum and assessments with the General Medical Council's Outcomes for Graduates and the requirements of the Medical Licensing Assessment.
- Manage timetable change requests in accordance with academic regulations and approved governance processes.
- Provide reports on Medical Sciences curriculum and assessment activities as required.
- Lead on the implementation of the PCSM Evaluation Strategy, including surveying students at different timepoints, to provide insight enabling the School to accomplish its mission.
- Support data analysis and critical enquiry across all evaluation data, ensuring that results are communicated within the School, and externally as appropriate.
- Liaise with the Head of Quality and the PCSM Head of Operations to support the quality assurance of curriculum materials and triangulation with evaluation data.
- A PhD and significant postdoctoral experience in an area of medical science
- Possession of (or working towards) a recognised qualification in medical education or leadership, Advance HE fellowship (or similar)
- Substantial experience of research in an area of medical science
- Extensive experience of working in medical education/training
- A demonstrable track record of leadership in teaching using a variety of strategies
- Experience in teaching innovation and the production of different learning materials, along with its associated evaluation and management
- Experience in curriculum planning and development in Higher Education
- Substantial experience in different aspects of development and delivery of the medical education curriculum, medical school planning and governance
- A well developed knowledge of assessment theory and practice as it relates to medical education
- Proven leadership skills, with the capability to rigorously design, develop, communicate and oversee processes in line with guidance and best practice
