Kane Group are an established, and successful multi-disciplinary building-services solution contractor, with our Head Office based in Banbridge, Northern Ireland.

About the Role

The Head of HSE will lead Kane's Health, Safety and Environmental function across the business, providing leadership and direction for HSE culture, standards, and performance.

The Head of HSE will work closely with Operations, business support functions and the supply chain to ensure HSE is practical, visible and embedded in decision-making, project delivery and day-to-day ways of working, promoting shared ownership, clear accountability and consistent standards across the organisation.

The role will develop and maintain consistent HSE systems, reporting, assurance and improvement processes across projects, departments and regions, supporting compliance and measurable improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES HSE Leadership and Culture
  • Lead the HSE team across all regions and provide strategic leadership and direction for the Health, Safety and Environmental function.
  • Set clear HSE expectations, standards and priorities for the business.
  • Champion a positive HSE culture across the company and provide visible leadership throughout the organisation, including on live projects.
  • Build strong relationships with team members across departments to promote collaboration and shared ownership.
  • Represent Kane in health, safety, environmental and sustainability forums or client discussions where required.
HSE Systems, Standards & Compliance
  • Maintain H&S policies, procedures and practical guidance to support safe project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM requirements, relevant legislation, regulatory obligations, project and client requirements.
  • Ensure HSE requirements are understood and consistently applied across departments, projects and the supply chain.
  • Maintain alignment with ISO 45001 / ISO 14001.
  • Review, maintain and improve HSE management systems and processes, identifying gaps or inefficiencies and implementing practical solutions.
  • Ensure consistent use of HSE systems, across teams and projects, including relevant company platforms such as 4P, Field View, and InnDex where they support HSE delivery.
Environmental & Sustainability
  • Set sustainability and environmental targets with leadership and lead the delivery of agreed actions.
  • Lead environmental performance tracking and improvement activity.
Audits, Inspections & Assurance
  • Develop, manage and enhance internal and external HSE audit programmes.
  • Own and lead the HSE audit programme, ensuring audit findings are reviewed, closed out and used to drive improvement.
  • Review trends, repeat issues and assurance outputs to identify gaps, recurring risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Oversee the end-to-end management of HSE incidents, ensuring effective investigation, root cause analysis, implementation of corrective and preventive actions, and the sharing of lessons learned across the business.
Project, Subcontractor, Supply Chain and Department Support
  • Support project mobilisation, planning and ongoing project delivery from an HSE perspective ensuring adherence to standards.
  • Coach project teams, supervisors, departments and subcontractors to keep HSE practical, visible and embedded on site and in day-to-day work.
  • Work with project and support teams to apply HSE strategies and troubleshoot challenges as they arise.
Engagement, Training & Communications
  • Lead HSE workshops, campaigns and targeted improvement sessions.
  • Promote proactive safety practices, environmental awareness and personal accountability.
  • Engage stakeholders at all levels to drive alignment and commitment to HSE objectives.
  • Refine monthly HSE reporting to ensure data consistency and alignment with company objectives.
  • Monitor HSE KPIs and provide actionable insights and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Use audit findings, incidents, KPI trends and stakeholder feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead, manage and develop direct reports including HSE Managers and the Sustainability Advisor driving high standards of performance and actively building capability through coaching, mentoring and structured learning and development.
  • Ensure the HSE team has clear priorities, effective ways of working and the capability to support current and future business needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • NEBOSH Diploma Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • IOSH Membership (Grad IOSH or above)
  • CMIOSH (Chartered IOSH
  • Lead Auditor in ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001
  • IEMA Membership
EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
  • A minimum of 3 years senior HSE leadership experience within the Construction, MEP, or Building Services Environment.
  • Experience leading, managing or developing HSE professionals across multiple projects, regions or business areas.
  • Working knowledge of CDM requirements, & UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Working knowledge of environmental management principles and ISO 14001 management systems.
  • Demonstrable experience of audit, assurance, incident management, investigation, and root cause analysist
  • Proven experience in sustainability and ESG delivery.
  • Experience improving safety culture across an organisation.
  • Experience engaging clients and supply chain partners on HSE matters.
