About Tracer

Many scientists struggle to debug broken bioinformatics pipelines, slowing the pace of breakthroughs in areas like drug development. We're building Tracer to fix that: an advanced observability platform for high-performance computing. Backed by $3M from top-tier investors and based in London, we're assembling a world-class founding team.

About the Role

We're looking for a Head of Front-End to join as one of our first engineers. You'll be responsible for building every surface the user interacts with, including real-time dashboards and complex data visualizations. As our front-end technical lead, you'll drive architecture decisions, own the web platform end to end, and set the standard for design-engineering excellence.

This is a high-impact role for someone who wants to move fast, own major product areas, and shape the company's engineering and product DNA from day one.

What You'll Do

Design, build, and maintain web and mobile applications using Next.js and TypeScript
Lead front-end architecture across our entire product surface area
Implement real-time observability dashboards and advanced data visualizations
Connect UI to backend services (Clickhouse, Rust APIs, AWS)
Own deployment pipelines via Vercel and AWS
Set up reusable components, design systems, and internal tooling
Collaborate closely with design, product, and backend to build cohesive experiences
Establish technical standards and help grow the front-end team

What We're Looking For

Required

3+ years of full-time experience building complex front-ends or full-stack apps
Deep expertise in React, Next.js, and TypeScript
Proven ability to ship, maintain, and scale production-grade web applications
Experience deploying via Vercel or similar frameworks
Strong product intuition and design sensitivity
Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced startup environment

Bonus

Experience with Clickhouse or other high-performance databases
Background in data visualisation or observability tooling
Prior lead/front-end ownership in a startup or new product build
Experience integrating with scientific tools (Nextflow, AlphaFold) or dev infra (eBPF, Terraform)
