Interim Head of Commercial Finance / Head of FP&A role - Bristol - September StartCharles Maidment from the Hays Senior Finance Team in Bristol is recruiting for a qualified, highly commercial finance contractor to join a fast-paced, evolving business following a recent acquisition and leadership change.

Start Date: September
Location: Bristol (minimum 2 days per week on-site)
Contract: Initial 6-month interim assignment
Role Type: Head of Commercial Finance / Head of FP&A

What You'll Be Doing

You'll provide financial and analytical support to the trading team, including:

Producing weekly routine reports and ad hoc trial analysis

Supporting the production of budgets and forecasts for the P&L

Managing weekly and month-end reporting, including journal processing and reconciliations

Supporting audit requirements and ensuring clean cut-offs at half-year and year-end

Leading planning cycles (budgets & forecasts), including weekly KPI targets and category-level sales

Preparing budget & forecast packs for review meetings and output reports for trading teams

Delivering daily/weekly reporting with actionable insights

Completing all month-end reporting, interpreting variances, and updating on opportunities and risks

Managing income and aged debt processes

Overseeing capex budgets and quarterly stakeholder sign-offs

Business partnering with financial and non-financial stakeholders, up to executive level

Conducting ad hoc modelling and analysis of offers and promotions

Supporting the finance and trading teams with other relevant tasks

What We're Looking For

Qualified ACA / CIMA / ACCA

Highly numerate with an analytical background, ideally within retail or e-commerce

Commercially minded - quick to understand the business and identify risks & opportunities

Advanced Excel skills; Power BI experience is highly desirable

Thrive in a fast-paced environment, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Proactive and improvement-driven mindset

Personable, collaborative, and confident in stakeholder engagement
