Head of Finance Startup, Munich

ABOUT THE COMPANY tozero is Europe's first lithium-ion battery recycling startup, turning battery waste into new resources. We recover critical materials like lithium and graphite with industry-leading efficiency and are now scaling from pilot operations to our first commercial plant near Munich. With plans to expand globally and process over 30,000 tons per year, tozero is driving raw-material independence and powering the circular battery economy.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for a strategic and hands on Head of Finance to lead all aspects of finance at tozero, with a specific focus on financing our first industrial scale plant.

You'll build and lead a finance function capable of supporting our next stage of growth - from securing major CAPEX funding to enabling full scale recycling operations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Lead financing execution: Drive CAPEX and non dilutive funding for our first industrial recycling plant, building on the financing strategies already developed and taking them through closing and deployment.

• Optimize capital structure for scale: Refine and expand our existing funding frameworks to support future sites and maintain an efficient capital stack.

• Strengthen funding relationships: Deepen partnerships with banks, infrastructure investors, and public funding institutions across Europe.

• Oversee finance operations: Ensure excellence across budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, financial planning, and reporting with investor grade discipline.

• Strategic partner: Work closely with the CEO and board on capital allocation, investment planning, and long term financial strategy.

• Governance and transparency: Deliver board level reporting, audit readiness, and compliance across public and institutional funding programs.

• Enable scale up: Lay the groundwork for a finance team structure that can scale with the business.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Proven experience in CAPEX heavy, project based financing (e.g., infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, or industrial tech projects)

• A strong network and/or working knowledge of banks, public funding agencies, venture debt, or infrastructure investors

• Ability to structure and close complex financing deals (ideally across grants, debt, and equity instruments)

• Strong financial planning, modeling, and analytical skills - and the ability to connect numbers to strategy

• Experience building and leading a finance function from the ground up in a startup or scale up environment

• Hands on and proactive working style, with the willingness to operate across strategy and execution

• Strong stakeholder and partner management skills, both internally (team, board) and externally (financiers, advisors)

• A growth mindset and entrepreneurial spirit, especially in the context of deeptech / industrial ventures

• Fluent in English and German
