Job Description

The Big Cat Sanctuary is a centre dedicated to the rescue, breeding and conservation of endangered cats. Located in the heart of the Kent countryside, we're home to a diverse collection of big and small cats, and we support global rescue and conservation efforts through education, research, and sanctuary-based initiatives. As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking a Head of Finance to lead and develop our financial strategy and operations.

Position Summary

The Head of Finance will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the organisation, ensuring robust financial management, long-term sustainability, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This is a pivotal role that will help shape the strategic direction of The Big Cat Sanctuary.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the full finance function, including day-to-day operations, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

• Manage and develop the finance team, supporting their growth and performance.

• Lead the implementation, use and optimisation of Sage Intacct, ensuring accurate and timely financial data and reporting.

• Produce accurate management accounts, financial forecasts, and budgets.

•Develop long-term financial plans in line with organisational strategy and growth.

• Monitor cash flow, reserves, and investment planning.

• Ensure compliance with all relevant financial legislation, policies, and procedures.

• Provide financial insight and reporting to the Board of Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team.

• Oversee audit preparation and liaise with external auditors and other financial stakeholders.

• Support fundraising, grant applications, and donor reporting with accurate financial data.

• Review and implement financial controls, policies, and systems to ensure strong governance.

About You

• ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent) with strong financial leadership experience.

• Proven track record of managing finance in a charity or similar organisation.

• Strong knowledge of Sage Intacct (or similar accounting software).

• Experience in strategic financial planning, forecasting, and managing budgets.

• Confident managing a small team and building relationships across departments.

• Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines under pressure.

• Strong understanding of charity finance regulations and reporting requirements is desirable.

• Passion for conservation and the values of The Big Cat Sanctuary.
