Job Description

Head of Early Years in this outstanding, established and well respected British Curriculum school carries both academic leadership and pastoral responsibility for the foundation stage. The role demands a blend of pedagogical expertise, leadership skills, and personal attributes.

1. Pedagogical & Curriculum Expertise

Strong knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and its principles. Understanding of play-based, inquiry-led learning and how to balance it with structure. Ability to design, implement, and evaluate a developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with British standards. Awareness of assessment practices in EYFS (learning journeys, observations, baseline assessments). 2. Leadership & Management Skills

Capacity to lead, inspire, and mentor staff, promoting high teaching standards. Skilled in team building, conflict resolution, and performance management. Ability to manage resources, timetabling, and facilities effectively. Experience in school improvement planning and quality assurance. 3. Child-Cantered Focus

Deep commitment to child wellbeing, safeguarding, and inclusion. Understanding of child development, SEND (Special Educational Needs and differentiation strategies. Ability to foster a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment. 4. Communication & Interpersonal Skills

Clear and empathetic communicator with staff, parents, and children. Ability to engage parents as partners in their child's learning journey. Cross-cultural sensitivity (especially in international school contexts). 5. Vision & Innovation

Forward-thinking, able to embed best practice and embrace innovation in early years pedagogy. Advocates for creativity, inquiry, and holistic learning. Strong grasp of how early years education connects with later Key Stages. 6. Personal Attributes

Patience, empathy, and resilience. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Adaptability and openness to continuous professional development. Passionate about lifelong learning and modelling a love of learning.
