Are you an experienced curriculum leader ready to drive excellence in teaching, learning and student achievement?

We are recruiting for a Head of Department - Structural Technologies on behalf of a leading Further Education provider in the South East. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and inspiring leader to shape curriculum delivery, support high-performing teams and enhance learner success across the department.

The Role

Reporting to the Curriculum Director, you will lead and develop the curriculum team, ensuring outstanding teaching, learning and assessment whilst driving continuous improvement, innovation and student achievement.

You will oversee programme leaders, support staff development and build strong relationships with industry stakeholders to ensure the curriculum remains relevant and responsive to employer and local skills needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and develop curriculum teams to deliver outstanding learner outcomes.
  • Drive high standards of teaching, learning and assessment across the department.
  • Monitor retention, achievement and progression, implementing targeted interventions where required.
  • Lead quality improvement activities, self-assessment and action planning.
  • Develop innovative curriculum provision aligned to industry and local skills priorities.
  • Support and develop staff through performance management, coaching and mentoring.
  • Manage departmental resources and contribute to strategic planning and operational targets.

About You

To be successful, you will have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification.
  • A recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience leading courses, curriculum areas or academic teams within Further Education or a similar educational setting.
  • A proven track record of improving student achievement, retention and quality outcomes.
  • Experience managing and developing staff.
  • Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A passion for delivering an exceptional learning experience and driving continuous improvement.
