The Head of Communications will report to the Executive Manager, Corporate Services and Transformation, and is the Council's principal communications advisor to the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team. The role will lead the development and delivery of our Communications Strategy () spanning media, digital, social, internal and stakeholder communications, and sets the tone and voice through which Dublin City Council communicates with the public.
Over the next five years Dublin City Council will deliver a multi-billion Euro capital programme, including major housing delivery, climate action, transport and public realm projects. It is also progressing flagship projects such as Parnell Square Cultural Quarter, O'Connell Street regeneration, Dalymount Park, and the implementation of our Digital Transformation Strategy .

Main Duties of the JobBrand, reputation and challenging communications. Protecting and building the reputation of the Dublin City Council brand, providing advice and guidance and leading communications on matters that attract significant public, political and media scrutiny. Leading the implementation of the recent Dublin City Council brand refresh and ensuring successful long-term implementation.
Strategic communications advice. Acting as principal communications advisor to the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team on policy, service delivery, organisational change and major city initiatives.
Major Capital Projects and programme communications. Leading communications for the Council's approx. 3.9 billion Euro capital delivery pipeline, including housing, climate action, active travel, transport, public realm.

These services include the provision of housing, planning, development, economic, environmental, roads and traffic, fire and emergency, leisure, cultural and community services. Many of these services, including traffic, drainage and fire and emergency services are provided on a regional basis for the Greater Dublin Area.
An opportunity now exists in Dublin City Council for the position of Head of Communications.
Salary Scale effective from 1st June 2026:
Hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will amount to not less than 35 hours gross per week.
The annual leave allowance for the position of Head of Communications is 30 days.
