Job Description

Head of Business Services Control and Insights is a senior leadership role responsible for driving excellence across multiple functions within Business Services with a focus on Strategy Execution, People, Governance and Analytics across all of Business Services as well as ensuring effective leadership of a strong control's framework and stakeholder partnership with the Business.

4 "sub-teams"/focal points in Business Services Control and Insights:

  1. Business Resilience Control: An effective governance and control operational team that ensures all agreed (organisational wide) deliverables for Operational Resilience are implemented.
  2. Business Continuity Control: An effective governance and control operational function that ensures all agreed deliverables for Business Continuity are implemented.
  3. Assurance: Ensuring both Run the Business (RTB) and Change the Business (RTB) outcomes, assurance tracking, reporting, metrics, controls are effective for all attributes are effective. Also ensuring strong and effective business partnerships including 2nd & 3rd Line partners
  4. Delivery Project Office (PMO): Delivery PMO resources providing effective support and services to Delivery teams. Formally reporting to Business Services Controls & Insights, assignment to Delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead an integrated strategy across many functions of Business Services (see above) that aligns with organisational objectives, risk appetite, and growth plans.
  • Focus on Operational Excellence, Transparency (through reporting and analytics), Outcomes, Task Centralisation/Optimisation, and Efficiency
  • Secure buy-in and implement improvements to systems, processes, strategy and governance as appropriate.
  • Deliver strong business outcomes relating to capital, profitability, the Company brand and market reputation whilst achieving positive outcomes to our policyholders, shareholders, and business partners on a consistent basis.
  • Support the strategic and regulatory development to protect critical business services.
  • Act as a strategic advisor and strong business partner to the executive team, to the COO Leadership team and to the Business Services Leadership team
  • Communicate vision, drive disciplines and mindsets, and embed new operating models across functional areas
  • Focus on total cost of ownership for all deliverables
  • Resource demand management and resource tracking for Both Run the Business (RTB) and Change the Business (CTB) activities as they relate to Business Services and the wider Change Delivery operating model
  • Total Cost of ownership modelling across Business Services functional ownership; 3rd Parties, Change Delivery etc.
  • Communication, Tools, Standards, Governance and Business Services Best Practice

Industry Background:

Performed the role of a COO/Deputy COO/Chief of Staff/Member of COO Leadership team within a regulated small/medium tier Financial Services organisation

Technical Expertise:

Controls and Insights

  • Exceptionally strong understanding of operational controls, processes, frameworks,
  • Leadership knowledge in Design and control of metrics, KPI, MI and Analytics
  • Leadership knowledge in Target Operating Model Design and Efficiency processes

Risk Assessment & Mitigation:

  • Understanding how to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, governance and

Performance & Risk Monitoring:

  • Knowledge of performance management tools, scorecards, 2nd/3rd Line assessments/engagement

Cross-Functional Knowledge

  • Finance: Budgeting, forecasting, ROI analysis, and cost control.

Change Management:

  • Large Program/Project change Management delivery track record
  • Knowledge of stakeholder alignment, communications strategy
  • Membership/Chairing of Organisation Committees (e.g. ExCo, OpCo, Management Risk Committee)
