As part of our mission to drive the transition to renewable and low carbon energy solutions, we are excited to announce an opportunity for a Head of Business Development - Sustainability to join our team. This pivotal role will shape the future of sustainable energy delivery across a diverse portfolio of public and commercial sectors.
Role Overview
The Head of Business Development for Sustainability will play a crucial role in driving growth, fostering partnerships, and promoting sustainable solutions. They will lead on the efforts to secure new business through the development of forward thinking solutions across a range of decarbonisation projects, including district heating systems, energy centres, and renewable technology integrations. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will liaise with clients and support in setting out the project scope to best meet the client's objectives, and engaging with specialists to ensure designs put forward meet the highest standards of efficiency, innovation, and compliance while supporting Alternative Heat's mission to drive decarbonisation in building services.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Business Growth - Identify and pursue new business opportunities in sustainability related markets, such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and ESG services. Develop tailored strategies to attract clients and expand market presence, aligning with the organisation's sustainability goals. Build and execute business plans to meet revenue and growth targets while ensuring alignment with climate action or decarbonisation objectives.
- Client Relationship Management - Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and new clients, ensuring satisfaction and long term engagement. Act as a trusted advisor to clients by understanding their sustainability challenges and offering customised solutions (e.g., carbon reduction strategies, circular economy services). Prepare compelling proposals and deliver presentations to secure new contracts or partnerships.
- Market Analysis & Opportunity Identification - Stay updated on sustainability trends, regulations (e.g., carbon legislation), funding resources and technological advancements to identify emerging opportunities. Analyse market conditions and client needs to develop innovative solutions that align with environmental goals.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement - Work closely with internal teams (e.g. Low Carbon solutions, Bids, Pre construction, Operations) to support shaping project specific proposals ensuring they align to client requirements. Collaborate with external stakeholders, including policymakers, NGOs and corporate partners, to promote sustainable practices and drive impact.
- Advocacy & Thought Leadership - Represent the organisation at industry events, webinars or conferences to position it as a leader in sustainability. Advocate for sustainable practices within the organisation's client base and broader community by educating stakeholders on the benefits of adopting low carbon solutions.
- Reporting & Performance Monitoring - Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to business development efforts aligned to business strategy and provide regular updates to support development of support teams.
- A proven background in decarbonisation, renewable energy or sustainability leadership roles.
- Demonstrable technical knowledge and understanding across energy systems, in particular renewable energy.
- Strong understanding of legislative frameworks surrounding low carbon solutions.
- Exceptional communication and organisational skills, with a proven ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in engaging with and leading multi disciplinary teams, to support development of project specific proposals ensuring they remain connected with client aspirations.
