Job Description
Head of Audience Development, Lexology

Department: Content Editorial & Research

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: London

Reporting To: Rosie Cresswell

Description Lexology is a market-leading global legal intelligence and research platform, with a large, engaged audience of in-house counsel, buyers of legal services, who use it to manage and mitigate risk, stay up to date, and broaden their expertise and connections.

This role is the start of a new function for Lexology, and we're looking for an experienced audience development expert to help us expand our loyal, paying subscriber base, as well as grow the overall audience on the site. This role is ideal for a content strategist who understands how to use quality content and the data behind it to attract, engage, and convert high-value audiences.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create and implement the editorial-led audience development strategy, focusing on growing qualified traffic and increasing conversion rates from free to paid.
  • Working with the editor-in-chief, ensure the platform content strategy aligns with user needs, business goals, and subscription growth targets. Partner with editors and subject matter experts to develop high-impact content formats and series that nurture users through the conversion funnel.
  • Identify and scale editorial themes that demonstrate strong conversion potential, using data to guide commissioning and publishing priorities.
  • Working with technical SEO and AEO resources on the product and tech team, ensure content optimisation to achieve maximum discoverability outside our platform.
  • Collaborate with marketing and product teams to align content with lifecycle marketing, onboarding, and retention strategies; and to optimise content journeys and CTAs to guide users toward subscription or trial sign-up.
  • Define and own a newsletter and social media strategy designed to maximise engagement and conversion rates.
  • Define and own KPIs for editorial performance, including engagement, lead generation, and conversion metrics. Using native analytics tools, monitor performance and use the data to drive conversion goals. Lead A/B testing of headlines, formats, and content placements to improve conversion outcomes.
  • Act as the bridge between editorial, marketing, and product teams to ensure content is discoverable, valuable, and conversion-optimised.
  • Mentor the wider content team of writers, editors and analysts to ensure conversion and engagement goals are known, understood and drive energy and behaviour. Champion a culture of experimentation, insight-driven publishing, and editorial innovation.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 8+ years of experience in or audience development, editorial strategy, or content marketing, ideally in a B2B or subscription-based environment.
  • Proven ability to lead or mentor editorial teams with a focus on performance and business impact.
  • Deep understanding of content analytics, SEO / AEO, and user behaviour.
  • Experience designing and executing strategies that convert readers into subscribers.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
