Job Description
As the Head Chef, you will lead the kitchen team in planning, preparing, and serving high-quality meals tailored to the specific dietary needs and preferences of our residents. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary kitchen environment, managing food budgets, and collaborating with the team to create menus that promote resident health and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of meal preparation, ensuring the highest standards of food quality and presentation.
Create diverse and well-balanced menus that accommodate the dietary requirements and preferences of residents.
Prepare and cook all daily meals for residents and team and provide catering for special occasions, private dining and events.
To cook meals and prepare snacks and beverages in line with the needs and preferences of the residents.
Work closely with the care team to design therapeutic and specialised diets for residents.
Monitor portion control and ensure meals are prepared in accordance with residents' dietary requirements.
Uphold strict food safety and sanitation standards in the kitchen.
Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
Understand the principles of safe food handling to ensure all food preparation undertaken in the kitchen is to the highest standards of hygiene.
Continually adapt and diversify menus to meet resident preferences and seasonal availability.
Stay informed about culinary trends and incorporate innovative ideas into menu planning.
Manage food costs effectively while maintaining high-quality standards.
To keep proper records for the monitoring and review of the agreed catering budget and to ensure that it is not exceeded.
To manage all team in the kitchen area including carrying out regular supervision and annual appraisals in line with company policy.
To plan team rotas ensuring full coverage and any annual leave is planned and covered in advance for your team.
To keep all records required from time to time by management, regulatory authorities and in the areas of health, safety and hygiene.
To ensure that COSHH regulations are complied with and to keep all required records.
To undertake a scheme of quality assurance audits as agreed with the Home Manager.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with all residents, family, visitors and colleagues.
To attend team meetings and training sessions as required for the better performance of your duties.
To complete any mandatory training specified during the induction and thereafter to ensure that you are competent to fulfil the responsibilities of your role.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Good people & relationship building skills.
Positive work ethics.
Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
Ability to work using own initiative.
Full working knowledge of Health & Safety.
Full working knowledge of Safe Food, Better Business Regulations.
Good record keeping skills.
Attention to detail.
Basic Food Hygiene Level 2 or above
