Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical pharmacist with a desire to work within haemato oncology in one of Europe's largest centres for treating blood cancers and the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe. This post is well supported by our highly trained specialists and will provide a unique and exciting opportunity to work with haemato oncology cancers, including transplants. We are also a well established CAR T centre for which our pharmacy team play an integral role in the delivery of.

Our hospitals offer both NHS, private, inpatient and outpatient care for haemato oncology cancers, including transplants, chemotherapy and clinical trials and we have one of the largest research portfolios in the country. As a team we dedicated to embedding enhanced roles for pharmacy technicians and maximising our non medical prescribing workforce.

Main duties of the job

The Haemato Oncology Clinical Pharmacist is a position designed to develop pharmacists with a keen interest in haemato oncology by enhancing their knowledge and skills, and providing the depth of experience across all areas of haemato oncology. The role will also provide opportunity to take on further development opportunities, to support skills in professional practice, personal practice and management and organisation.

To provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care, contributing to the multidisciplinary team for the haemato oncology unit.

To support the wider Pharmacy Clinical Services team with the Clinical Governance and Risk Management Strategy within the department and throughout the Trust.

To work flexibly across the day unit, outpatient department, ambulatory unit and clinic areas as required to clinical check the appropriateness of prescribing and promoting medicines optimisation.

To initiate a transplant training passport and to work towards or maintain competence to clinically support the transplant programme within the Trust, in line with JACIE standards.

Person specification Education/Qualifications
  • GPhC registered Pharmacist
  • Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Non-medical prescribing
  • Member of RPSGB
Experience
  • Hospital Pharmacy experience in an NHS or equivalent setting providing a clinical pharmacy service
  • Experience of delivering clinical pharmacy to a broad range of specialities & ability to provide highly specialist advice c) Audit, project management of research experience
  • Experience in Oncology Pharmacy practice
  • Demonstrated skills/knowledge for preparing injections & working in an aseptic environment
  • Audit, project management or research experience
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
  • Good organisational/time management
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Awareness of current developments in clinical pharmacy
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications eg. Word and Excel.
Other Requirements
  • Able to work on any Royal Marsden site as required
  • Ability to participate in out of hours service

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
