Located in scenic South Canterbury, which is rapidly becoming a lifestyle choice, our Clandeboye site is one of Fonterra's largest manufacturing sites, with 11 plants processing, at peak up to 13 million litres of milk per day. We employee over 1,200 people across the value stream all bringing a diverse range of skills, expertise and thought to our operation.

The H&S Business Partnering team supports the management of health and safety within COO (office of the Chief Operating Officer) and forms part of the Global Health, Safety, and Wellbeing team. Across COO, the support provided by the team involves working with leaders and teams within NZ Manufacturing, Global Supply Chain, Global Engineering & Technology, Food Safety & Quality and supporting business units.

The team has embarked on a significant transformation programme to continue a journey of improvement in health and safety, and is working with the business to embed new mindsets and practices including the implementation of Human and Organisational Performance and operational learning approaches.

We have an exciting opportunity at our Clandeboye site for a Health & Safety Business Partner to play a pivotal role in fostering a strong safety culture across a diverse and complex operational environment.

You will support the implementation of Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) plans, be responsible for monitoring activities and support the continuous improvement of health and safety practices to enable compliance, minimise risks, and promote employee well-being. As the H&S Business Partner, you will build trusted relationships with stakeholders and coach on best practice health and safety.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations to ensure best practice H&S standards and meet company and site safety objectives.
  • Understand the business environment to anticipate safety issues and associated risks and provide practical solutions.
  • Analyse event trending and support the management of incidents and contractors within our Health and Safety Management System.
  • Coach and lead quality learning reviews with shared learnings and corrective actions to enhance systems and processes aimed at enabling successful work.
  • Support sites permit to work improvement and use.
  • Ensure the H&S management systems are up to date and regulatory changes are adhered to.
  • Conduct investigations and learning reviews to develop preventive measures.
  • Plan and track HSW strategies across weekly, monthly, and quarterly timelines and present insights.
We are seeking a practical, experienced relationship-driven individual with a passion for HSW. A person who thrives in diverse environments and embraces challenges. You will excel in building meaningful connections, adapting to varied work environments, tailoring health and safety strategies and processes to align with unique operational needs, most importantly you will be experienced in coaching and influence leaders and employees on best practice health and safety standards. A passionate relationship-builder, your stakeholder relationship skills will be second to none, and your natural resilience and ability to manage expectations proactively will see you go far in this role.

To make an impact in this role you will have:

  • Proven experience in a health and safety advisory or business partnering role.
  • Preferably hold a relevant health and safety certificate or diploma (NEBOSH, Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent).
  • Strong technical health and safety expertise ideally from a manufacturing or high-risk environment.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and standards including process safety, and hazardous substances risk management
  • Ability to implement adaptive HSW strategies in diverse settings.
  • Ability to instil trust across a diverse workforce and establish meaningful relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment plus being adaptable to change and ambiguity.
  • Analytical mindset to investigate and learn from incidents and trends to develop robust preventive measures.
