The role of the Group Environment Manager is to define, measure and facilitate the reduction Currys' impact on the environment, specifically in relation to climate change and the circular economy. The role will coordinate and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders across upstream and downstream activities within the group to focus the environment within their strategies, to embed best practice and behaviour change and improve colleague and customer engagement through designated environmental awareness programmes and communications. Other impact areas include natural capital and resources consumption.

As part of this role, you'll be responsible for:
  • Contribute to the development and drive implementation of Currys sustainability strategy.
  • Define and monitor Currys' significant environmental risks and proposed mitigations such as climate change, waste and pollution.
  • Proactively influence key stakeholders across the business to deliver against Currys' ambitious environment commitments, including its science-based climate targets, the British Retail Consortium's (BRC) Net-Zero roadmap and creating circular business models for electronics.
  • Work cross-functionally, leading specific environmental projects and their implementation, as well as monitoring and reporting of results for use in Product, Finance, Property, Marketing and Brand.
  • Support and develop with Services, Brand, Marketing and Go To Market teams on new and existing customer propositions to promote recycling, sustainable purchases and encouraging behaviour change.
  • Regular reporting to Group Sustainability Leadership Team on progress against strategy and input into monthly Board papers where required.
  • Support and collate Currys' external reporting requirements such as TCFD, CDP, BRCs Better Retail Better World initiative and Currys' annual report.
  • Provide accurate information for internal and external use through platforms and investor ratings such as Ecovadis, MSCI and Sustainalytics.
  • Support learning and understanding for all employees as to how they can help reduce environmental impact and deliver our environmental commitments.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external parties to protect Currys' reputation in relation to best practice and legislative compliance such that its position continues to reflect the requirements of our customers, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Corporate Affairs and Communications to ensure that Group communication around important events is amplified.
You will need:
  • Project Management - Deliver key projects and programmes (Advanced)
  • Stakeholder Management - Manage and influence stakeholders (Advanced)
  • Accounting and Financial Management - Apply financial knowledge to commercial and operational areas and explain clearly to others (Advanced)
  • Written and Verbal Communication Skills - able to tell a complex story in a compelling manner via all means of communication (Advanced)
  • Problem Solving - Analyse and understand complex data and situations to recommend the optimal solution (Advanced)
  • Results Focused - Delivers work end to end to conclusion in a planned and controlled manner (Advanced)
  • Required: 5-10 years' experience in relevant environmental role(s) in industry
  • Preferred: formal qualifications & training relating to environmental issues/ management
