Job Description
About the role

Are you passionate about protecting the environment and improving the places where people live, work and visit?

We're looking for a motivated Greenspace & Environment Enforcement Officer to join our Greenspace Action Team at Kirklees Council. You'll play a vital front line role in tackling environmental anti social behaviour, helping to keep our neighbourhoods safe, clean and welcoming for everyone.

This is a varied and people focused role where no two days are the same. You'll work directly with residents, businesses and partner organisations, using engagement, education and enforcement to drive positive behavioural change across our communities.

What you'll be doing
  • Providing a visible presence across Kirklees to deter and address environmental anti social behaviour
  • Engaging with individuals, communities and groups to promote environmental responsibility and improvement
  • Investigating complaints and concerns, gathering evidence and preparing case files where enforcement action is required
  • Issuing warnings, notices and fixed penalties in line with legislation, council policy and best practice
  • Supporting legal proceedings where necessary, including preparing statements and attending court
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to deliver shared environmental objectives
What we're looking for

You'll be confident, resilient and able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. You'll know when to take an educational approach and when firm enforcement is required.

You'll also need:

  • An understanding of environmental anti social behaviour and how it impacts communities
  • The ability to deal calmly and appropriately with challenging or confrontational situations
  • Strong written and IT skills to produce accurate notes, reports and statements
  • Confidence to speak to individuals and groups, including children and adults, about environmental responsibilities
  • A sound understanding of health and safety and safe working practices
  • A full, clean driving licence and willingness to pass a Kirklees Council driving assessment
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required
Why work for Kirklees?

You'll be part of a supportive, purpose driven team making a real difference to the borough. In return, we offer:

  • A secure permanent role
  • Competitive local government salary and pension
  • Opportunities for development and training
  • The chance to contribute directly to environmental improvement and community wellbeing
