The OpportunityThis is your chance to be part of a dynamic team tackling some of the most significant technical challenges across the UK's Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) fleet. As a Graphite Engineer, you'll contribute to ensuring the graphite cores continue to perform their vital nuclear safety functions.
Your work might span multiple technical areas including weight loss, properties, stress analysis, and DTA. You'll manage data, develop theoretical and computational models, and collaborate with suppliers to uphold safety, quality, and innovation. Your insights will help shape EDF UK's future graphite strategy.
This is a hybrid role, with a mix of home and office working, with occasional travel to the Gloucester office.
Pay, Benefits & CultureThe salary range associated with this role is between £61,730 - £95,993. You'll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. What You'll Be DoingAs a Graphite Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of maintaining the integrity and safety of graphite cores across the AGR fleet. Your work will involve developing and deploying models and rig tests to predict damage, oxidation, and degradation.
You'll manage technical data, collaborate with suppliers, and ensure delivery against tight deadlines and budgets. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining high safety and quality standards while driving continuous improvement.
You'll also contribute to shaping EDF UK's graphite strategy by innovating new analysis methods and applying statistical modelling to forecast future performance. Your expertise will help safeguard the future of nuclear operations in the UK.
Who You AreYou'll bring a strong academic background, with a HNC or equivalent in a scientific, engineering or mathematical discipline. Your analytical mindset, problem solving abilities, and numerical skills will be key to your success in this role.
You're self motivated, results driven, and committed to continuous improvement. Your communication and influencing skills will help you thrive in a collaborative team environment. Prior knowledge of irradiation induced changes in graphite is essential.
Experience in statistical analysis, materials science, numerical modelling, or software development will be advantageous. Whether you've worked in the nuclear industry or led technical teams, your diverse background will be valued here.
