Before you commit to teacher training, spending a year working directly in a school is one of the most valuable things you can do - for your application, your confidence, and your certainty that teaching is the right path. This role puts you inside English departments, working daily with students and experienced teachers, giving you real, credible school experience to talk about at interview.

The Role

As a Graduate English Learning Mentor, you'll support GCSE and A-Level students with reading, writing, and analytical thinking. You'll run small group interventions, deliver one to one mentoring, and help students develop the literacy and communication skills they need to succeed - in English and beyond. This isn't a passive role - you'll be an active, valued member of the English department from day one.

What You'll Be Doing

• Delivering targeted support in English Language and English Literature
• Running small group and one to one sessions for GCSE and A-Level students
• Supporting students with essay writing, reading comprehension, and textual analysis
• Helping students with revision strategies and exam technique
• Developing students' confidence in spoken and written communication
• Collaborating closely with qualified English teachers to improve student outcomes

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• A 2:1 or above in English, English Literature, English Language, or a related degree (e.g. Journalism, Creative Writing, Linguistics)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• An ability to explain ideas clearly and accessibly to young people
• Motivation to pursue a career in education

Desirable:

• Previous tutoring, mentoring, or classroom experience
• Familiarity with GCSE and A-Level English curricula
• Experience working with young people in any capacity
