Job Description

Are you a Psychology or Social Science Graduate passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally?

If you're interested in a career in educational psychology, teaching, therapy, or SEN support, this role offers invaluable hands on experience in a real primary school environment.

We are working with an inclusive Secondary school in the M14 area of Manchester, offering an opportunity for a committed Graduate to join the team as a Graduate Academic Mentor.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of SEND needs, including social-emotional needs, speech and language needs, ASD, ADHD, and learning difficulties.

This is the perfect stepping stone for graduates looking to gain the specialist experience required for future postgraduate training.

The Role: Graduate Academic Mentor

Location: Manchester, M14
Commitment: Full time (Monday-Friday)
Start Date: Asap, for the full 2025/26 academic year
Salary: £500-£530 per week (term time only)

Your Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support to pupils with identified SEND needs.
  • Assist with small group interventions focusing on communication, emotional regulation, literacy, and numeracy.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and external specialists to implement tailored learning plans.
  • Support pupils with behaviour, routines, and confidence building.
  • Help create an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child feels valued.
  • Use psychological insight to better understand pupil needs and support their development.
What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate:

  • Holds a Bachelor's degree(2:2 or above).
  • Has experience supporting children or vulnerable individuals (desired but not essential).
  • Understands child development, SEND needs, and emotional/behavioural support.
  • Is patient, empathetic, and confident when working with children who may present with complex needs.
  • Communicates clearly and builds strong, supportive relationships.
  • Works well in a team and shows initiative when supporting learning.
  • Is passionate about equality, inclusion, and helping every child reach their potential.
