GP Practice Administrator - Fixed Term

We are looking for a proactive and organised individual to support our administrative team over the summer period. This is a fixed-term opportunity and would suit someone looking to gain experience in a busy NHS primary care setting, for example, those considering a future career in medicine, nursing, or allied health professions.

Post is temporary and will end in September 2026, with no expectation of extension.

Main duties of the job

• Support processing of referrals and onward care pathways
• Manage incoming clinical correspondence and documents
• Update patient records accurately on EMIS
• Assist with general administrative tasks to support the team
• Ensure timely and accurate handling of patient information
• File, scan, and code documents in line with practice protocols
• Liaise with clinical and administrative staff to ensure smooth workflow
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection standards at all times

Person Specification Experience

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Good organisational and time management skills
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Reliable and professional approach to work
• Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office or equivalent)
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Understanding of basic medical terminology
• Interest in working within healthcare or the NHS
• Previous administrative experience
• Familiarity with EMIS or other clinical systems
