Job Description

Cambridge Regional College is looking for a new governor or co-opted member to join its Audit and Risk Committee. The College is one of the largest providers of vocational training and apprenticeships in the region, we provide full-time, part-time and work-based training to school leavers, adults and businesses.

Cambridge Regional College is governed by a Corporation made up of 20 members, including representatives from local business and the community, as well as the staff and student body. As an Audit Committee member, you will be involved in safeguarding college assets, agreeing the college's internal audit schedule and overseeing the college's assurance and risk management framework.

The Audit and Risk Committee's membership includes both full governors, and co-opted members. Full governors attend approximately 6 board meetings a year, in addition to 4 Audit committee meetings (normally 2 hours in early evening). Co-opted members only attend the Audit committee meetings. Additional work includes reading meeting papers, training and attending college events on an occasional basis.

No formal experience of being a governor is required. We are particularly looking for a qualified accountant, lawyer or auditor with an interest in education. Many of our audit committee members find it a useful way of gaining committee experience from the client perspective, as well as having the opportunity to share their skills and expertise in a volunteer capacity. We are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds who have a keen interest in making a difference to our community in a board-level environment.
