GIS Architect
Our client, a leading global supplier for IT services, requires GIS Architect to be based at their client's office in Wokingham, UK.
This is a hybrid role - you can work remotely in the UK and attend the Wokingham office 3 days per week .
This is a 6+ month temporary contract to start ASAP
Day rate: Competitive Market rate
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Technical/Solution Architect to lead the design and implementation of a scalable, secure, and interoperable GIS platform. This platform will support strategic spatial energy planning, environmental impact assessments, economic modelling, and community engagement. The Architect will play a pivotal role in consolidating Legacy systems, ensuring data quality, and enabling advanced geospatial analytics.
Key Responsibilities
GIS Platform Architecture & Design
- Lead the end-to-end design of a scalable GIS platform aligned with project strategic goals
- Define architecture principles, technology stack, and integration patterns
- Ensure interoperability with internal and external systems (eg, energy models, environmental databases)
Infrastructure Provisioning
- Design and provision Azure-based environments (Sandbox, Dev, UAT, Production)
- Ensure high availability, scalability, and security of cloud infrastructure
- Integrate with peripheral systems to support end-to-end workflows
Data Migration & Legacy System Integration
- Lead migration and replication of spatial datasets and functionalities from Legacy GIS platforms (eg, Intergraph, Smallworld)
- Ensure continuity of historical insights and data integrity
Data Governance & Quality
- Establish data stewardship processes and governance frameworks
- Implement metadata standards, symbology conventions, and data validation mechanisms
- Leverage automation and AI/ML for data quality improvement
Geospatial Analytics & Modelling
- Enable spatial analytics, economic modelling, and visualisation tools
- Support decision-making and public engagement through intuitive dashboards and maps
Stakeholder Engagement & Use Case Delivery
- Conduct discovery workshops with stakeholders to validate use cases
- Deliver solutions through agile sprints and iterative development
Training & Transition
- Deliver training sessions and technical documentation as per standards
- Provide hypercare support during transition to production
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in solution architecture, with at least 5 years in GIS platforms
- Proven experience with Azure cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices
- Strong understanding of geospatial technologies (eg, ESRI, QGIS, FME, GeoServer)
- Experience with Legacy GIS systems (Intergraph, Smallworld) and data migration
- Familiarity with AI/ML applications in geospatial data quality and analytics
- Agile delivery experience and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
