GIS API Architect/Engineer

Job Description

My client are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior API Engineer with GIS experience to design and build our data infrastructure. You will be the technical expert responsible for architecting and developing robust, scalable APIs that transform complex GIS data into accessible and user-friendly services.

Key Responsibilities:

• API Development & Architecture: Design and implement a scalable API infrastructure data (maps, rasters, vector data, etc.). You'll be the lead on hands-on development, turning complex GIS datasets into logical and performant RESTful API endpoints.
• API Management: Select, implement, and configure an API management solution to handle monitoring, security, documentation, and versioning.
• Technical Expertise: Act as the subject matter expert on GIS integrations via APIs, guiding internal teams on best practices.

Skills Required:

• Deep GIS Experience: Proven expertise in GIS concepts and technologies, including working with map, raster, and vector data.
  • Familiarity with standards like WMS, WFS, or modern GIS APIs.
  • Experience with GIS software or libraries (QGIS, ArcGIS, GDAL, PostGIS).
• API Development: Strong background in designing and building RESTful APIs using modern programming languages (Python, Java, Node.js).
• Architectural Vision: Ability to translate a long-term technical vision into concrete, sustainable solutions.
• API Management: Hands-on knowledge of or experience with platforms like Kong, Apigee, Azure API Management, or similar.
• Bonus Skills:
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
  • Familiarity with OGC API standards.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

Languages:

Must be fluent in Dutch or French with proficent level in other plus speak fluent English.

Location:

Brussels Belgium 3 days per week with 2 days per week remote work required.
