The successful candidate will join the Geotechnical - Service DeliveryTeam and participate in the technical delivery of offshore geotechnical site investigations including coordination of onshore geotechnical laboratory testing campaigns and subsequent geotechnical/site characterisation reporting.Location: Southampton - this position is open to candidates based in the UK.You will be integral within a talented team, collaborating across departments, and working closely with our group Geotechnical Laboratory and Geoconsulting teams contributing towards project success. You will assist in the innovation and development of initiatives to enhance workflows, data analysis and quality of deliverables, contributing to the successful delivery, operation and evolution of market-leading geotechnical site investigation services. What will you do: Onshore Laboratory & Soil Description: Perform detailed soil descriptions in accordance with relevant international standards (ISO/BS). Conduct index laboratory tests including water content, soil wet and dry density and undrained shear strength index testing. Ensure accurate documentation, sample handling, and compliance with laboratory quality procedures. Offshore Site Investigation Support: Participate in offshore geotechnical acquisition activities when required. Contribute to data quality checks during field operations and ensure preparation and delivery of high-quality deliverables. Office-Based Technical Work: Process in situ test data (e.g., CPT and SCPT), perform QA/QC checks, and prepare processed data outputs. Check laboratory test results, ensuring compliance with testing standards and assess correspondence with expected soil behaviour. Prepare report deliverables, including factual reporting, geotechnical logs, and appendices. Advanced Laboratory Test Specifications: Develop and issue test specifications for advanced geotechnical laboratory testing (e.g., triaxial testing, oedometer/CRS, cyclic tests). Select and schedule appropriate tests based on project design needs and soil conditions. Innovation and Process Improvement: Contribute towards forward-thinking initiatives and geotechnical innovations to enhance workflows, data analysis, and deliverable quality, positioning Ocean Infinity as a leader in offshore geotechnical services; HSE Compliance: Adhere to Ocean Infinity's management system policies, ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards are met during offshore operations. Who you are: Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline. A minimum of three years of relevant experience in offshore geotechnical engineering, with a strong focus on offshore geotechnical data acquisition and delivery within the offshore energy sector. In-depth knowledge of offshore geotechnical methods, including but not limited to Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), borehole sampling, and geophysical survey techniques. Familiarity with coding in Python and/or MATLAB for data processing or analysis. Creative and proactive problem-solving skills, with a passion for improving workflows and data quality. Excellent organisational skills, capable of prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to clients and stakeholders.
