Job Description

Did you know that Crafts Council Gallery is available for hire?

Manchester Craft & Design Centre is seeking a proactive and passionate General Manager to join our small team and lead the Centre into its next chapter.

This newly created leadership role is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Centre, driving income generation, supporting a community of independent makers, and delivering excellent visitor experience.

Reporting to the Strategic Director (to be appointed), you will manage the Operations Manager, Marketing & Digital Officer, and (pending funding) a Volunteer Coordinator.

  • You will ensure smooth running of the building, oversee studio and caf tenant relationships, and lead on facilities, maintenance, and sustainability planning.
  • You'll also take a key role in tackling challenges such as anti-social behaviour and promoting a welcoming environment for all.
  • With a strong commercial mindset, you'll work with the Director and Finance Manager to meet income and expenditure targets.
  • You'll lead on hiring out workshop and event space, developing pop-up opportunities, and reporting progress to our Enterprise Board.
  • The General Manager will also support marketing and volunteer activity and deputise for the Strategic Director as needed.

We're looking for someone with substantial experience in venue, operations or general management in a similar environment (such as cultural or retail). You'll have a solid grasp of budget management and financial reporting, strong leadership and communication skills, and a commitment to inclusive, sustainable practices.

This is a part-time, permanent position based on site at Manchester Craft & Design Centre, working 21 hours per week (including Saturdays on a five-week rota).
