We are looking for a skilled and reliable General Maintenance Operative to join our facilities team. The successful candidate will carry out a range of planned and reactive maintenance tasks, ensuring building systems operate safely and efficiently in line with legislation, best practice, and contractual requirements.
As a General Maintenance Operative you'll:
Carry out risk assessments for maintenance activities, working safely and in full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations.
Deliver both planned preventative and reactive maintenance, diagnosing faults and repairing building services assets within technical capability.
Undertake like-for-like asset replacements and minor new works as required, ensuring all activities meet relevant regulations, standards, and company policies.
Respond to emergency callouts and provide technical support outside normal working hours when necessary.
Supervise specialist subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.
Maintain all tools, equipment, and PPE in good working condition and ensure accurate records are kept for all completed tasks, materials used, and time spent.
Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and contractors, supporting effective communication and collaboration.
Support the training and development of apprentices and contribute to ongoing team learning.
Stay informed on current legislation, industry standards, and best practices in building services to maintain technical competence.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring maintenance activities are delivered on time, efficiently, and to the highest standard.
Report progress, highlight issues promptly to the supervisor, and complete all required training and competency assessments.
What we're looking for:
NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in a building services discipline.
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a technical maintenance environment.
Strong practical skills with working knowledge of engineering standards and compliance.
Experience following safe systems of work and health and safety procedures.
IT literate with experience using Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines independently.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Understanding of Helpdesk and workflow processes.
Awareness of cost, sustainability, and operational impact.
