Overview

An opportunity has arisen to join Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) as an operational General Instructor Leading in Incident Command or Live Fire within the Learning and Development department at Wray Park Training Centre, Reigate, Surrey.

Responsibilities

Lead Incident Command and Fire Fighter to Crew Commander Development. Attend a Breathing Apparatus Instructor course (if not already held) and support this subject. Lead Live Fire instruction and support operational training such as Recruit Training, Technical Rescue, IECR, Apprenticeship and Development. Maintain operational competencies by carrying out a duty shift per month at one of our Stations at your substantive rank. Research, develop and deliver all learning materials for your subject area, including maintaining the standards of other instructors.

Qualifications

Incident Command: minimum rank of Competent Watch Commander, instructing qualification (PTLLS or Level 3 Award in Education and Training), assessing qualification (CAVA or A1), and trained in XVR and Incident Command instructing.

Live Fire: minimum rank of Competent Crew or Watch Commander, instructing (PTLLS or Level 3 Award in Education and Training), assessing (CAVA or A1), Breathing Apparatus, Compartment Fire Behaviour Instructor, and Tactical Ventilation qualifications. Ideally hold at least one Live Fire instructor qualification and be willing to undertake further training to achieve all required disciplines.

Applicants must currently be working within a Fire and Rescue Service. The role may be a 12 month secondment or permanent post.

Benefits

Annual Leave dependent on length of service: 26 days initially, increasing to 29 days after 5 years, plus 8 bank holidays.

Salary - Developing Watch Commander £44,038 per annum plus 10% or Watch Commander B £48,202 per annum plus 10% (42 hours).

Role paid at WCB rate if already a competent WC or if you have successfully achieved an appropriate Instructor, Assessing (CAVA/A1) and Teaching Qualification (PTLLS or Level 3 award). Prior to this, the role is paid at WC Development rate. 10% enhancement due to flexible nature.

Flexible working: some evening and weekend work required.
