Description

Gas Engineer (NCO2)

Our Role

As an NCO2 Team Leader, you will undertake activities related to locating and repairing public-reported gas escapes. You will assist in making safe and/or repairing gas service pipes or mains, re-assessing previously visited escapes, laying mains and/or services in diameter, and carrying out mains/service isolations. You need to have exceptional customer service skills, be enthusiastic, promote safe working practices, and drive efficiency while maintaining compliance.

Key Responsibilities

To carry out this role, you must have a full valid driver's license and be able to be clean-shaven daily for health and safety reasons.

Your daily duties will include:

  • Team Leader duties
  • Attending gas leaks
  • Groundwork excavations and reinstatements
  • Utilizing appropriate signing, lighting, and guarding
  • Ensuring cable avoidance
  • Delivering equipment and tools as required
  • Patrol and plant protection
  • Working on deep excavations up to 2.5m
  • Working on a standby rota system
Experience and Qualifications

To carry out this role, you must have a full valid driver's license and be able to be clean-shaven daily for health and safety reasons. Activities include supporting the classification and programming of gas escapes, testing, survey, detection, and diagnostic work on the network and in gas consumers' premises. The job involves:

  • Receiving instructions via data and verbal requests, planning, organizing resources, and ensuring efficient work execution
  • Assisting in laying, connecting, disconnecting, commissioning, decommissioning, and maintaining pipework and associated equipment
  • Responding to emergencies, participating in standby, and assisting in testing, surveying, detection, and diagnostics
  • Carrying out excavation, backfill, reinstatement, and repair work to standards, including waste removal
  • Providing training, advice, guidance, and support to teams and individuals involved in gas system operation and maintenance
  • Advising third parties operating near the gas system
  • Gathering information and preparing reports, including technical documentation
  • Managing equipment and materials procurement, inspection, storage, and handling according to standards
  • Promoting teamwork and development across activities to meet business objectives and improve performance
