Applications are welcomed from both qualified Dual Fuel Engineers and experienced Gas Engineers looking to move into smart metering through a fully supported training programme.

Gas Engineer Upskilling Programme

If you are an experienced Gas Engineer, you will complete an approximately 10-week Dual Fuel Engineer training programme.

The programme includes formal academy training followed by practical experience out on patch alongside a qualified engineer. You will be supported as you build the portfolio required to achieve full sign-off.

You will receive:

• £35,000 salary throughout your training

• Approximately 10 weeks of structured dual fuel training

• Formal training through the company's academy

• Practical field experience with a qualified Dual Fuel Engineer

• Support to complete your training portfolio

• An increase to £43,258 once successfully signed off

• OTE of up to £54,000 through bonus, overtime and callout

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Gas Engineer to develop valuable electrical and smart-metering skills without taking an unpaid career break.

The Dual Fuel Engineer Role

Once qualified, you will deliver smart-metering services to customers across Carlisle and the CA postcode area.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Installing and maintaining gas and electricity smart meters

• Carrying out metering and logger communication tests

• Delivering consistently high technical and first-time completion standards

• Communicating proactively with customers before appointments

• Providing a professional and positive customer experience

• Explaining the benefits of smart metering clearly

• Working with operational support teams to complete jobs efficiently

• Following all safety, compliance and working procedures

• Managing company tools, stock, equipment and vehicle standards

• Supporting colleagues with complex jobs and emergency cover when required

• Contributing to a culture of safety, technical excellence and continuous improvement

Gas Engineer Training Route Requirements

To be considered for the upskilling programme, you should have:

• Practical experience working as a domestic Gas Engineer

• Relevant and current gas qualifications

• Strong technical and fault-finding ability

• Good communication and customer-service skills

• A genuine commitment to completing the training and portfolio programme

• A full UK driving licence

Previous smart-metering or electrical experience would be advantageous but is not essential, as comprehensive training will be provided.

Qualified Dual Fuel Engineer Requirements

Qualified applicants should have:

• Previous dual fuel smart-metering experience

• CMA1 or CCN1

• REGT1

• MET1 and MET2

• A Level 2 Diploma in Smart Metering - Dual Fuel/Power, or equivalent evidence of electrical competence

• Good knowledge of industry governance and compliance

• Strong technical and first-time completion standards

• A full UK driving licence
