Gap Rowing Assistant / Trainee Rowing Coach - Claires Court School

Claires Court School are looking to appoint a Gap Rowing Assistant / Trainee Rowing Coach, to join their existing team, from September 2026. You will coach pupils from their senior girls' and boys'. This is a part-time post working 22 hours per week all year round. This is a great role to balance with developing your own potential as a rower. Sessions will primarily be in the afternoons.

Job purpose

To support with the coaching of rowing and preparation of equipment and to safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils in your care

• To coach rowing working alongside the existing team, mostly working with our year 9 and 10 development group
• To continually develop yourself as a coach so you can take on additional responsibilities throughout the year and progress you career.
• Ensure equipment is prepared prior to each session
• Keep the rowing club and equipment clean, tidy and secure, during and at the end of the day
• Attend rowing regattas and competitions throughout the year, assisting with the day-to-day administration and organisation of these events
• Support the equipment manager with the care and maintenance of our rowing boats
• Conduct Risk Assessments for activities when appropriate
• Report all accidents and near misses, adhering to school policy
• Work safely for own protection and the protection for others (see also Health and Safety policy).
• Be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we aim to create and maintain a safe environment for our pupils, where they feel respected and supported. We expect all staff to share this commitment and to become familiar with our policies and procedures for child protection and security.
• Complete and attend all safeguarding and child protection training as required by the school.
• Ensure compliance with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the School's Privacy Notice for Staff

Due to the nature of the work the post holder will be engaging in regulated activity with children.

• A committed rower with competitive experience
• Keen to contribute to the whole department and develop as a coach
• Patient, with the ability to inspire confidence in others
• Skilled in building excellent working relationships with students and colleagues
• Flexible in your approach to work, with the ability to work outside normal working hours, as some weekend and evening work may be required
