Fullstack Backend Engineer, Platform Developer Experience
Posted 3 days 17 hours ago by Spotify AB
Do you love being in the flow as a developer and want to enable that for everyone else as well? Do you believe that the key to personal flow is in making the local developer build experience fast, well-integrated, automated, and with meaningful insights? We are seeking a collaborative and curious Engineer to help drive and develop our VCS Platform forward.
Version Control System (VCS) is the heartbeat of the developer experience. Spotify's extensive growth serving 1 billion customers has led us to approach operational limits, and we need to improve our stack to the next generation of VCS. This role will be part of a team collaboratively creating and owning the VCS Platform for Spotify, aiming to provide our developers with a streamlined, simple-to-use, and safe development experience at scale. This includes operational responsibility for the systems and seamless collaboration with partner vendors. You will explore the GenAI space by evaluating existing products and building internal GenAI tools to measure their impact on developer productivity.
The role is located in the Platform Developer Experience (PDX) Studio within the Platform Mission. The PDX Studio oversees and owns infrastructure that spans all engineering disciplines at Spotify.
What You'll Do- Execute Spotify's future VCS Platform strategy to serve 3000+ engineers, supporting thousands of daily releases and enabling large-scale GIT repositories.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure teams across the company to define what a best-in-class VCS platform entails.
- Design, develop, and maintain tools, systems, and resources-such as Backstage plugins, datasets, and libraries-that enhance the developer experience and our understanding of it.
- Explore the applicability of third-party tools, notably Generative AI solutions, within our development workflows.
- Deliver high-quality, maintainable, and testable code, taking operational responsibility for your components.
- Maintain and evolve datasets powering our developer experience metrics.
- You have good knowledge of Python.
- You possess a solid backend foundation and are comfortable working across the tech stack, with a keen interest in developing new skills.
- You value iteration, believing that finding the right solution is more important than the first attempt.
- You have experience using GenAI for building internal tools and/or user-facing applications.
- Experience in developer experience, testing, CI/CD, and familiarity with productivity frameworks and metrics are a plus.
- This role is based in London, UK.
- We offer flexibility to work remotely, with some in-person meetings.
