The Academic Staff Member - Foundation role supports learners enrolled in Foundation programmes at Levels 1 and 2, with a focus on building essential academic, work readiness and life skills. As a tutor, you'll deliver engaging, learner centred teaching that ensures learning outcomes are met or exceeded, while creating inclusive environments that build confidence and independence for foundation learners, including those with intellectual disabilities. You'll work co operatively and collaboratively with the teaching team, programme leader, managers, support staff and key stakeholders to achieve departmental objectives and contribute to Ara's mission and vision. This role suits someone passionate about equitable education, flexible teaching approaches, and positively supporting diverse learners to progress into further study, employment and community participation.
- A relevant teaching/disability support qualification
- An in-depth understanding of the issues surrounding people with an intellectual disability
- Teaching experience, including working with adults with intellectual disabilities
- Experience, knowledge and skill in managing behaviour that may be challenging
- A commitment to providing quality programmes/courses with clear assessments
- A deep understanding of issues facing people with intellectual disabilities, and a commitment to advocate in relation to these
- An understanding and appreciation of cultural issues and commitment to the development of a culturally sensitive working environment
