Department overviewThe EMEA Flow Rates Middle Office team sits within the wider Global Middle Office function. The team's primary responsibility is as a control function at the trade and portfolio level, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of trading P&L and the smooth running of the daily trading environment. The team is central to all activity relating to trading desks and as such is widely involved in new regulatory, legal entity and innovation activities. Additionally, Transaction Control provides a value add service and mitigates risk further by providing timely and relevant insight to management on trading activity. The Middle Office function is responsible for trade control and support for Front Office activities across Global Markets and the Investment Banking division, and is responsible for processing transactions and fulfilment of control aspects of trade lifecycle.
Role descriptionThe Head of EMEA Flow Rates Middle Office will report directly to the EMEA Head of Flow Products Middle Office and assume comprehensive responsibility for leading both the Flow Rates Middle Office team and the Portfolio Compression team. This leadership role involves directly managing the team leads responsible for day to day operations while maintaining strategic oversight across all activities across the London and Mumbai based teams.
As the primary escalation point for operational issues, the successful candidate will serve as the key business contact for both Flow Rates and BRM desks. They will be responsible for maintaining high standards of support for the EMEA Flow Rates trading desks, with controls operating effectively to ensure errors such as mis booked or un booked trades are identified and rectified intraday. The role will also encompass monitoring and developing the control environment, including Key Risk Indicators, to ensure global consistency across all processes and procedures.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead and develop the team, as well as individuals within, driving high performance and helping team members reach their potential. The position will also play a key part in the wider global Flow Rates Middle Office management team, contributing to strategic agenda setting and cross regional initiatives.
Key objectives critical to success- Operational Excellence: Deliver consistent, high-quality support to the business, with minimal operational risk incidents and consistent positive feedback from stakeholders
- Team Leadership & Development: Successfully lead, mentor, and develop team leads while building a high performing organization that supports business growth and regulatory requirements
- Business Partnership: Establish and maintain strong relationships with Flow Rates and BRM trading desks, becoming their trusted operational partner and primary point of contact
- Control Environment Enhancement: Operate and enhance robust controls and governance frameworks that ensure regulatory compliance and operational risk mitigation across all team activities
- Industry expertise and alignment: Stay up to date with industry trends, including technological and regulatory enhancements, including building strong relationships with vendors and financial market intermediaries
- Experience in Financial Services, with significant exposure to derivatives operations
- Proven track record of successfully running large, complex teams in a middle office or operations environment
- Extensive hands on experience managing Flow Rates derivatives operations and associated workflows
- Deep knowledge of market infrastructure platforms including Markitwire, LCH SwapClear, SwapAgent, and Quantile
- Demonstrated experience in portfolio compression operations and related risk management processes
- Exceptional people management capabilities with a proven record of developing and growing large teams
- Experience mentoring and developing individual team members and future leaders
- Strong stakeholder management skills with ability to influence across multiple business lines
- Proven ability to drive change management initiatives and process improvements
- Comprehensive understanding of Flow Rates derivatives products, lifecycle management, and settlement processes
- Understanding of portfolio compression, the resource impact associated as well as the regulatory framework and control environment
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements impacting derivatives operations (EMIR, CFTC, MiFID II, etc.)
- Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
- Excellent communication skills with ability to present to senior management
- Collaborative approach with ability to work effectively across global teams
- Results oriented mindset with focus on continuous improvement
