Due to the current Head of service taking a seconded position the Oncology division are offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join the team as Professional Head of Radiotherapy on a fixed term (18 months) contract. This post is less than full time -33 hours per week (0.89 WTE)
The successful candidate will be required to have excellent communication and team working skills to drive engagement across multiple teams and deliver good performance within services. They will provide the professional leadership to the Therapeutic Radiography staff within the Trust.
The role will also involve engagement with key external stakeholders, including outreach partners, Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance, commissioners and regulators. A key role will be supporting the integration and alignment of Radiotherapy clinical pathways across the Oncology services within the ICS.
The post holder will be responsible for the effective provision of radiotherapy services to maintain the highest professional and technical standards of radiotherapy and patient care. The post holder will hold the requisite skills and qualifications to provide leadership and expert professional input.
Main duties of the jobThe Cancer Centre is focused on providing excellent patient pathways and patient-centered care. We strive to continuously evolve to reflect the technical advances within Radiotherapy, and work closely as a multi-professional team to achieve this. We have a Varian ETHOS on the Guildford site, delivering daily online adaptive radiotherapy for bladder and cervical cancers, as well as four Varian Truebeams, one of which will be replaced later this year with a Varian Halcyon. The satellite centre in Redhill has a newly-installed Halcyon and ETHOS; both are equipped with Align-RT surface-guidance and Hypersight advanced imaging, which are also to be installed on the ring-based pair at Guildford. External beam treatment planning is carried out using the Varian Eclipse system, and includes use of automated planning and auto segmentation. All systems work within a cloud-based Aria environment. We have 3 CT scanners across the two sites and use MR imaging in treatment planning, with further development of PET/CT underway. The Guildford site additionally has an orthovoltage unit, a Papillon unit for contact radiotherapy and a comprehensive, highly-renowned brachytherapy service including both HDR and LDR treatments.

Working with the Lead Clinician for Radiotherapy and Associate Director for Oncology the post holder will develop services in line with changes in technology, professional recommendations, and government requirements, whilst meeting the Trusts Cancer strategy and priorities.
As a member of the Oncology Division the post holder will actively participate in the SBU management meetings to advise and constructively inform the Associate Director for Oncology and Lead Clinician on the treatment service organisation, service developments of all aspects of the service and human resource management in order to provide a patient-centered, effective and coordinated service.
The role will also involve engagement with key external stakeholders, including outreach partners, Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance, commissioners and regulators. A key role will be supporting the integration and alignment of Radiotherapy clinical pathways across the Oncology services within the ICS.

Person Specification Qualifications- Diploma / BSc Degree in Therapeutic Radiography
- Registered with the Health Professions Council
- Evidence of relevant post qualification training and education at M level
- Management Qualification
- Proven effective communication skills to deliver and receive highly complex and/or sensitive information
- Sound decision/analytical skills
- Accurate computer and keyboard skills for recording patient treatment data and preparing documents and presentations
- Ability to lead a professional team and act as a team player
- Ability to use initiative
