Job Description

Working alongside our Health and Safety Officer, you will help ensure the effective management of fire safety, prevention and protection across the Cathedral estate. You will provide specialist advice and guidance, undertake fire risk assessments, review policies and procedures, support training and evacuation exercises, and help us continue to embed a strong and positive fire safety culture.

The role combines technical expertise with the ability to engage and influence people at all levels. You will work closely with colleagues, contractors and other stakeholders to identify and manage risk, monitor fire safety standards and ensure our arrangements remain compliant with relevant legislation and best practice.

About you

We're looking for someone who brings both strong technical capability and a shared commitment to our purpose.

You might be someone who:

  • holds a Level 3 Award in Fire Risk Management and Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety (Assessor), together with IOSH Managing Safely;
  • has practical experience of conducting fire risk assessments and a strong working knowledge of fire safety legislation and relevant codes of practice;
  • has an understanding of building construction, ideally including historic or complex buildings;
  • can confidently advise, influence and build effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels;
  • has experience of developing policies, procedures and practical approaches to managing fire safety risk;
  • can deliver engaging and effective fire safety training; and
  • is proactive, organised and confident working autonomously, while bringing diplomacy and sound professional judgement to your work.

Experience or qualifications including the NEBOSH General or Fire Certificate, membership of the IFE or another relevant professional body, experience of fire safety within complex structures, and knowledge of Computer Aided Facilities Management systems would be advantageous.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who connects with our mission and enjoys working in a place where people and purpose matter.

We want St Paul's to be a place where people feel supported, valued and able to thrive.

Alongside a meaningful role, we offer a range of benefits, including:

  • Generous annual leave
  • Pension scheme with up to 7.5% employer contribution

  • Employee Assistance Programme for wellbeing support
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Discounts in the Cathedral Shop and at Benugo in the Crypt
  • Free entry tickets for family and friends
  • Balloted free staff tickets for concerts and special services
  • A supportive and welcoming working environment
