Job Description

About The Role:

Our client, a friendly and dynamic engineering practice, are on the hunt for an enthusiastic and hands on Finance Manager to join their growing London office.

This role, supported by a Finance Assistant, is responsible for overseeing all core financial functions of the business - including P&L, balance sheet management, budgeting, cash flow, reporting, and financial analysis. It's a key position within the company, suited to a well-rounded finance professional with experience in Xero and, ideally, a background in the built environment. In addition to strategic oversight, you'll be actively involved in the day-to-day finance operations, providing hands-on support across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations such as AP/AR, management accounts etc
  • Manager planning, budgeting, forecasting, P&L management, and chase debts
  • Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and uncover opportunities to reduce costs or increase revenue
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting
  • Lead the year-end close process and ensure all financial records are audit-ready
  • Supervise and support the development of the Finance Assistant, fostering their growth within the team
  • Provide clear financial insights and updates to senior leadership and board members

Key Skills/Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a senior finance role, ideally within the built environment or a related sector
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or in the final stages of completing a relevant qualification)
  • Strong working knowledge of UK accounting standards and financial regulations
  • Track record of delivering accurate and reliable financial reports
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks is a plus
