Finance Director (Part time / Consultant)

Overview

A leading professional services firm is seeking a highly capable Fractional Finance Director to support both day-to-day operations and the long-term financial health of the business. Offered on a consulting basis, this role would suit someone able to work flexibly around 1-2 days per week, with increased availability during busy periods.

This is a pivotal position, responsible for overseeing financial systems, ensuring regulatory and secretarial compliance, and delivering insightful performance and insolvency finance reporting to the partnership.

You'll work closely with external accountants, internal teams, and insolvency professionals to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all financial matters. The role reports directly to the firm's Managing Partner.

Previous experience in an insolvency firm is not required; however, as the firm operates as an LLP, prior experience in professional services will be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage bank accounts and oversee daily/monthly cash management
• Prepare cashflow forecasts and monitor liquidity
• Produce monthly management accounts and support budgeting
• Process and reconcile staff expenses
• Prepare quarterly VAT returns and annual filings
• Liaise with external accountants on payroll, tax, and statutory accounts
• Manage PI insurance schedules and renewals

Regulatory Compliance & Company Secretarial

• Maintain statutory registers and company books
• Submit Companies House filings and shareholder documentation
• Manage ICAEW and FCA regulatory returns
• Oversee ICO registration and firmwide compliance
• Liaise with corporate service providers for non-UK entities

Performance & Productivity Reporting

• Analyse monthly staff time records and report insights
• Recommend improvements to time recording and cost recovery

Client Onboarding

• Coordinate onboarding, engagement documentation, and compliance checks

Skills & Experience

• ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified
• Experienced Financial Controller Finance Director with experience in regulatory filings, and management reporting
• Background in financial control, compliance, or insolvency finance within professional services
• Strong understanding of UK regulatory frameworks (ICAEW, FCA, VAT)
• Confident communicator with stakeholders and external advisers'
• High integrity and discretion with sensitive information
