Job Description

Our client is looking to recruit an experienced Finance Director, to lead all accounting activity for their business, and provide hands-on support to the Directors and finance team.

About the Role:

As Finance Director, you will take full ownership of the financial operations of a successful SME. You'll be reporting directly into the MD and become a core member of the senior leadership team. This is a hands-on, strategic role within the company, offering scope to shape processes and bring financial clarity and control to business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Deliver accurate monthly management accounts and annual statutory financial statements
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
  • Ensure statutory compliance with VAT, PAYE, and year-end reporting

Strategic Leadership & Commercial Insight

  • Act as a commercial partner to the MD and wider leadership team
  • Provide insights on revenues, margins, cost efficiencies, and cash flow management
  • Guide commercial decisions through scenario planning and robust analysis

Team & Systems Oversight

  • Manage a small finance team
  • Oversee accounting systems, payroll, invoicing, credit control, and supplier payments
  • Drive improvements and upgrades to financial systems and controls

Governance & Risk

  • Maintain strong internal controls and risk management frameworks
  • Manage relationships with external accountants, insurers, and banking partners
  • Prepare for audits and ensure financial governance standards are met

Person Specification

Required:

  • At least part-qualified or qualified ACCA / CIMA (or equivalent)
  • Proven hands-on finance experience, ideally within an SME environment
  • Practical understanding of accounting systems such as Xero / Sage (or equivalent)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Strong commercial acumen with ability to influence and communicate effectively to non-finance colleagues
