Job Description

Field Service Engineer

Summary:

The role is a high-quality, conscientious Technical Services Engineer supporting the Technical Team and contributing to the development of the expanding Service Department. The candidate must be flexible, meticulous, and possess an in-depth understanding of the service sector.

Essential Functions:

To work effectively as a Field Service Engineer, the position requires:

  • Being a team player with the ability to work under pressure to meet demanding, multi-discipline targets.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills across multiple vendors, with knowledge of their setup and operation specific to MTS products.
  • Willingness to work outside normal hours.

Responsibilities include:

  • Technical Support: Providing remote support via phone and software to diagnose problems, identify user issues, monitor systems, and configure systems.
  • Field Service: Visiting sites for planned preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance after failures, equipment installation, and upgrades.
  • Spare Parts Management: Maintaining in-country spare parts, restocking, stocktaking, and managing inventory levels.
  • Refurbishment: Supporting sub-assembly refurbishment to enhance service costs and preventive maintenance outcomes.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

The role demands a highly specialized skill set across various disciplines, including:

  • Electrical/Electronic: Experience with industrial and domestic wiring, reading schematics, fault finding to component level.
  • Mechanical: Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, suggest improvements, and handle installation of machinery.
  • Computer & IT Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, databases, PC hardware, networking, and remote support systems.
  • Field Service Processes: Stock control, procurement, technical reporting, and quality procedures.
  • Health & Safety: Conducting risk assessments and complying with legislation.
  • Relevant higher qualification in Electronic/Electrical Engineering.
  • Prior relevant field service experience.

Work Conditions:

  • Working hours: Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work.
  • Ability to lift assemblies up to 25kg regularly, and heavier objects with assistance.
