Job Description
Overview

The Family Liaison and Admissions Officer plays a key role in supporting families throughout their journey with the school-from first enquiry through to successful admission and ongoing engagement. Working within a Special Educational Needs (SEN) setting, the postholder ensures families feel welcomed, informed, and supported, while also managing a clear, compliant, and compassionate admissions process.

Main ResponsibilitiesFamily Liaison
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and carers, offering guidance, information, and emotional support.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with families, ensuring effective communication between home and school.
  • Coordinate family meetings, transition visits, and information sessions.
  • Work with pastoral and safeguarding teams to identify and support families who may require early help or additional intervention.
  • Encourage and promote family engagement in school events, workshops, and consultation activities.
Admissions Management
  • Oversee the full admissions process in line with statutory guidance for SEN placements.
  • Coordinate consultations with local authorities, professionals, and prospective families.
  • Arrange and conduct tours, introductory meetings, and assessment visits for potential pupils.
  • Maintain accurate records of enquiries, applications, consultations, and decisions.
  • Provide well-informed advice to families regarding the Local Authority SEN process, EHCP requirements, and placement suitability.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, SENCO, and office staff to ensure smooth admissions processes.
  • Produce written reports, updates, and correspondence relating to admissions and family engagement.
  • Support transition planning for new pupils, ensuring families are fully prepared and informed.
  • Represent the school at events, meetings, and external agency discussions where required.
Person Specification
  • Experience working in a school environment, ideally within an SEN setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact sensitively with families.
  • Organised, efficient, and able to manage multiple tasks with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and EHCP processes (or willingness to train).
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and empathetic in challenging situations.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusive practice.
