The starting salary for these positions is £33,552 per annum based on a 36-hour working week.

Our Family Intervention Workers within our Intensive Family Support Service (IFSS) are based across Surrey in our four quadrant teams. You will have the opportunity to select the location(s) you wish to be considered for when applying:

  • South East Surrey - Office base in Reigate, working across Reigate & Banstead, Mole Valley, and Tandridge boroughs/districts
  • North West Surrey - Office base in Woking, working across Woking, Surrey Heath, and Runnymede boroughs/districts

About the Role

Launched in 2024, Surrey County Council's Intensive Family Support Service provides early help for families with interconnected needs. Working with community partners, our goal is timely support to prevent escalation and statutory intervention. We aim for consistent, well-coordinated support from familiar practitioners, avoiding families being passed between services.

Family Intervention Workers work alongside social workers in assessment teams to provide early, direct support to families. Typical activities include:

  • Supporting families using strengths-based, trauma-informed approaches, including meetings, home visits, school visits, and group work
  • Coordinating support services and professionals to form an effective Team Around the Family
  • Maintaining positive contact and managing relationships to ensure families receive consistent support

This role offers diverse social care experience, with positive feedback highlighting staff training, commitment, and pride in working in Surrey.

Shortlisting Criteria

Applicants will answer four questions about their experience and understanding of supporting vulnerable children and families, and upload a CV. A personal statement is not required.

To be shortlisted, your CV and responses should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of legislation and procedures related to vulnerable children and families, or willingness to learn
  • Ability to manage a caseload and seek guidance as needed
  • Ability to write clear and accurate reports
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills
  • Flexibility and teamwork skills
