Job DescriptionOn behalf of the UK Space Agency, the Space Partnership is facilitating the Space Skills Advisory Panel (SSAP) to bring industry, academia and government together to address skills opportunities and challenges for the UK space sector.
As explained in the NSS In Action, the SSAP plays a crucial role in ensuring access to quality skills and training offered across the UK space sector, and will remain pivotal in delivering the government's space priorities (as most recently articulated in the Industrial Strategy).
The SSAP supports the development of future space workforce policy initiatives, ensuring coordinated action can be taken by government, academia and industry in resolving current and future skills gaps.
The SSAP has been formed to:
Represent the skills related opportunities and challenges across the UK space sector in an open and balanced way on behalf of the communities across the UK space sector.
Identify the most appropriate collective action to address these opportunities and challenges.
Support the delivery of the agreed collective action both directly and by building a wider consensus across the UK space sector to ensure delivery.
Review the annual skills dashboard managed by the Space Partnership Director on behalf of the SSAP, contributing to the reporting for the dashboard as relevant.
The Terms of Reference detail the planned composition of the SSAP, which will include 20 members in total:
1 Chair appointed from Space Partnership Board
13 SSAP members will be appointed by their stakeholder group:
Industry appoints 5 representatives
Academia appoints 3 representatives
Government appoints 3 representatives
The remaining 6 panel members will be appointed following an Expression of Interest (EOI), which is completed via this application.
If your organisation is involved in the UK space skills landscape and you would like to be part of the SSAP, we would welcome your application. The aim is to have a mix of organisations that can represent the whole of the UK space sector in a fair and balanced way.
Applications will be welcome from today until 9:00am on Friday 28 November via the Satellite Applications Catapult's careers platform.
Applicants will be asked to answer 3 questions and provide a short CV of the representative that will attend the 4 SSAP meetings per year (each 2 hours and hybrid).
This is a great opportunity for a driven individual in your organisation to represent your contribution to the UK skills landscape by actively participating in the SSAP. They will have the opportunity to network with other like-minded individuals across the UK space sector and contribute to the development of skills policy in the UK.
Notes:
Only one application per organisation will be considered
The organisation must name the individual that will attend the meetings on their behalf.
This role is unpaid. Any travel and subsistence incurred cannot be claimed.
2026 SSAP meetings will be hybrid (13:00-15:00) on Mondays: 2 March, 1 June, 7 September, 7 December
