Job Description

A local school in the Cathays area of Cardiff is looking for invigilators to cover their summer exam period for the following dates:

Thursday April 16th -08:00AM - 13:00PM

Friday April 24th - 08:00AM - 11:00AM or 08:00AM - 15:30PM

Friday May 1st -08:00AM - 15:30PM or 13:00PM - 15:30PM

Tuesday May 5th- 08:00AM - 12:00PM

Thursday May 7th -08:00AM - 15:30PM

Friday May 8th - 08:00AM - 12:00PM

Monday May 11th - 08:00AM - 15:30PM or 12:00PM - 15:30PM

Tuesday May 12th - 08:00AM - 15:30PM or 12:00PM - 15:30PM

Wednesday May 13th - 08:00AM - 15:30PM or 08:00AM - 12:00PM

Thursday May 14th - 08:00AM - 15:30PM or 08:00AM - 12:00PM

Friday May 15th - 08:00AM - 15:30PM or 08:00AM - 12:00PM

End times of exams are approximate & shifts may be slightly shorter or longer depending on the exam(s) you are assigned to invigilate that day. There will be further invigilation shifts available in June, the dates/ times for these are yet to be confirmed.

Attendance is imperative, as without enough invigilators, exams will have to be cancelled. Please only apply if you are certain you will be available for the full shift.

Invigilators will need to ensure:

  • Examinations are conducted according to the JCQ regulations
  • The wellbeing of the students in the examination room
  • The safe and secure delivery of the exams

This work will involve:

  • The general supervision of candidates to ensure no malpractice during the examination period
  • Handing out extra answer booklets
  • Ensuring mobile phones, iPods, earphones etc. are handed in before the start of the examination
  • Any other duties that may be required by the Senior Exams Invigilator during the period of the exam being supervised.

For some shifts, we may require invigilators to complete Reading and Scribing for pupils requiring access arrangements.

A good standard of English, clear speaking voice, and neat handwriting is required as you will need to read questions out loud to candidates and then write out their answers. You should be happy to provide one to one support to the candidate. Please state in your application whether you would be happy to be assigned shifts as a Reader/Scribe.

Person Specification
  • Mature and calm nature
  • Experience working and/or volunteering with students/ young people
  • Enhanced DBS Check
  • Previous experience working and/or volunteering in a high school setting
  • Previous invigilation experience (especially for GCSE or A-level examinations)

Training videos will be provided prior to start date.

  5. Please state if you would be happy to be assigned Reader/Scribe shifts.

Note - This is an inner-city high school. There is very little parking available on the school site and none in the school overflow carpark.
