As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Estates and Facilities Non-Clinical Manual Handling Assessor position within the MHS. The role requires good communication/inter-personal skills, the ability to work within a team governance structure, and the ability to motivate, guide and educate staff.
The post holder should have knowledge of manual handling legislation, together with a good understanding of ergonomics and risk assessment.
The postholder will be responsible for assessing the Manual Handling practice of Estates and Facilities staff and providing Manual Handling education, coaching and advice to those job families.
The successful candidate will represent the MHS as an accountable and approachable team member, promoting safer systems of work and staff safety. The role requires strong core skills of organisation, flexible working and planning.
It is an exciting time to join the MHS to support NHS Lothian Estates and Facilities employees in the field of manual handling by providing education, raising awareness and improving safe working practices.
The post will require a working knowledge of safe manual handling practice and the application of ergonomics. Our service is committed to providing development and onboarding of MHS processes as part of the induction process.
The successful candidate will be subject to a robust probationary period with monitoring of learning objectives and performance indicators/targets to deliver Estates and Facilities manual handling education across NHS Lothian, as well as service-specific processes. Examples include onsite competency assessments and day-to-day team procedures, such as reporting to the MHS Line Manager and/or other MHS Site Area Leads as required.
This role is an integral part of the MHS covering NHS Lothian and is embracing innovation through ongoing projects to drive the MHS forward in terms of service development.
