Job Description
Overview

Healthcare systems are struggling; our solution is communication.

We have a bold vision: everyone involved in a patient's care - including the patient - should be able to communicate with each other, and we believe every NHS staff member should be using our software to make that happen. We want to make healthcare genuinely better. Our products are used daily by over 98% of GP practices and half of NHS hospitals, sending an average of over 25 million messages every month, impacting millions of lives. As an Engineering Manager, you will be mission-critical and central to shaping the core communication infrastructure of the NHS, enabling faster, safer, and more accessible patient care while leading the team that owns a specific set of capabilities within the product.

Current focus: to give a flavour of what we're working on, we're focused on AI Scribe across GP practices, hospitals, and other care settings, ensuring every patient leaves an appointment with a clearly documented summary; extending our expertise from total triage to improve hospital specialist services; and powering communication for Integrated Neighbourhood Teams as part of the government's 10-year plan.

Responsibilities
  • Drive delivery of our AI and Ambient Scribe capabilities, saving healthcare professionals time and enabling them to focus more on the patient.
  • Manage user-facing product features for Ambient Scribe, a key investment area in 2026 with opportunities in secondary care.
  • Translate product priorities into actionable delivery plans for your team and ensure on-time delivery with visibility into progress, quality, and impact.
  • Manage the processes and mechanisms used by the team to deliver on commitments.
  • Lead in assessing and decomposing work, sequencing, and capacity planning in collaboration with team experts.
  • Ensure the team maintains healthy, reliable systems and services.
  • Guide technical direction: work with engineers to make architectural and system design decisions within the product area; champion code quality, monitoring, alerting, and service health.
  • Lead and grow the team: recruit, develop, assess performance, manage promotions, and resolve conflicts to build a collaborative, high-performing culture.
  • Enable cross-team success: collaborate with other engineering managers, product managers, and stakeholders to unblock dependencies and align across the business.
What we're looking for

We seek an Engineering Manager who embodies our Principles and thrives on significant challenges. Core skills include:

  • Strong technical background with experience in C# or Java, or similar within the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience in user-centric, multidisciplinary teams working with product, UX, and commercial functions.
  • Business-minded to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Delivery-focused with experience in agile teams and clear delivery plans showing results and impact.
  • Understanding of monitoring, alerting, and maintaining service health.
  • Ability to contribute to technical decisions and participate in system and service design discussions.
  • Strong management experience covering the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, conflict resolution, performance management, and promotions.
What success looks like in this role
  • Product teams consistently deliver high-quality features.
  • Engineers feel supported, motivated, and clear on priorities; individuals and the team perform well.
  • Technical decisions contribute to a reliable, scalable, and secure platform used by millions of NHS staff, with emphasis on scaling.
  • Delivery plans are transparent, measurable, and aligned to organisational goals.
Our principles in action
  • Fix healthcare communication: All efforts are centred here.
  • Raise the bar: Hire for expertise, provide honest feedback, and deliver work we're proud of.
  • Be a driver, not a passenger: Take action, focus on the right problems, deliver ambitiously.
  • Succeed together: We succeed as a team; company success comes first.
  • Move with urgency: We work at pace to improve lives.
  • Be relentlessly resourceful: Embrace constraints to think differently and stay focused.
  • Embrace challenge: Value constructive conflict for the best outcome.
What we can offer

We believe in supporting our team to do their best work and thrive both professionally and personally.

  • Salary: £75,000 - £105,000 plus 50,700 share options.
  • Benefits through Happl with a budget of £600 for perks (private health insurance, wellness etc.).
  • Flexible Working: Office-first culture; in-office presence is expected at least 3 days a week.
  • Enhanced parental leave policy.
  • Chef-provided meals: free healthy breakfasts, snacks and lunches with occasional treats.

And much more.
