Endoscopy Technician

The Endoscopy Unit are looking to recruit an Endoscopy Technician.

The successful applicant will join a team that provide a decontamination service of endoscopes in line with national decontamination guidelines to both the Endoscopy Department and other areas of the hospital.

Previous experience of working in a decontamination unit is desirable.

Main duties of the job
  • The conduct and recording of checks on all types of processing equipment, and timely reporting of problems / faults
  • The correct dismantling and checking of instruments / equipment as appropriate
  • The correct use of all types of processing equipment whether for cleaning or sterilisation purposes
  • The correct assembly and checking of instruments / equipment as appropriate
  • The correct packing / labelling / sealing of instruments / equipment as appropriate
  • Soiled equipment processing
  • Unload collection trolleys in wash room
  • Scan all returned trackable equipment into computer system
  • Check returned sets against checklist and load into washer baskets
  • Report any errors in tray content to supervisor and user department and register in Non-Compliance Register
  • Prioritise sets for processing
  • Where necessary, dismantle instruments for thorough decontamination

The unit is open between 7.00 - 7.00 Monday to Sunday. You would need to be able to be fully flexible with all shifts.

Person Specification
  • GCSE or Equivalent in English and Maths
  • A working knowledge of keyboard, typing & computer skills

  • NVQ or equivalent in Decontamination of medical devices
  • Knowledge of Decontamination Process
  • Ability to work in a small space
